World Cup Final

I’ve always loved it when women share traditionally-male enthusiasms – e.g., football, cars, hard music.  They tend to be the best women; they deserve 100% support, and their interest in stuff I like cheers me up. How the hell could it not?

Spain and England are playing in the women’s Word Cup Final tomorrow.

I’ll be watching, of course.  I love football, especially Gaelic football and soccer, and I’m not going to miss it.

But check this out – an Englishman who writes for the Daily Telegraph whose article about the women’s World Cup is an unrelentingly bitter and bumptious sneer at women’s football:

I wish I could join in the celebratory atmosphere a little more, but to be honest I haven’t watched a single minute of the tournament … from my point of view you might as well give us a day off to celebrate Grimsby Town’s two-nil victory over Salford City on Tuesday.”

In a previous version of his article, he stated that he would not be watching; and this has now been toned down to “I hope those who watch it have a good time,”

He has so little time for the lasses that, get this, the miserable wee shite is not even going to watch the final – a global final in which his own country is playing.

He writes for the Torygraph, so we can safely assume that he’s generally a patriotic England-first sort of guy.

And yet, such is his contempt for women that it overwhelms any patriotism he might otherwise feel.

In other words, whatever affection he feels for his country does not extend to its female inhabitants.  It’s as if he doesn’t really view them as English.

One is well used to racists who, after a few pints, will declare that a black man cannot be English (or Irish), but this prick takes it to a new level – only blokes can be properly English.

Of course, blokes like him would also – rightly – sneer at the women-hating Taliban scum, but oh look whoosh he’s missed it, a big slab of irony flying over his head again – he’s no better.

How many times have England’s women been in a World Cup final before? Never – so one can safely assume that marking the occasion with a public holiday is unlikely to be a regular occurrence. Yet he bangs on about productivity as if one day was going to torpedo the UK’s econony:

Workshy Britain has had rather too much time off in recent years. It is about time we paid attention to lousy productivity and stopped looking for even more excuses to stay away from the office.”

That is, “don’t celebrate womens football, it’s bad for the economy“. What a sour-faced and prissy little man – casting around for any grim-faced excuse to justify his raging bigotry. This is nothing more than a feeble attempt to put a specious fig-leaf over his meanness of spirit.

Central to the Taliban view of the world is that normal activities (education, sport, driving, etc etc) should not be carried out by women.

This prejudiced little twerp doesn’t quite come out and say that women’s football should not be allowed, but his barely-veiled contempt for women’s football leaves puts him firmly on the same spectrum of women-hating intolerance as the Taliban.
